People selling horses have received inquiries from buyers through a third party regarding the purchase of a horse from a potential buyer in Africa, England, Hong Kong, Nigeria as well as other places. The inquiry attempts to arrange the purchase of a horse by a cashiers check which includes the price of the horse and shipping charges. After the horse has been shipped, they ask you to refund the shipping charges as part of a "finders' fee". They have also sent a check larger than the purchase price and then ask for a refund of the difference.

They send a COUNTERFEIT CASHIER'S CHECK. Unfortunately, the these counterfeit cashier checks are very good and the banks often do not find out they are fakes until they are returned. Overseas accounts take quite some time to be submitted and returned. By this time, your horse or your money has been sent to the scam artist.

These scams take on many forms - purchasing horses, frozen semen, tack, equipment, using WIRE TRANSFERS, etc. but all of the email seem to have similarities including misspellings, poor English, foreign countries, and making offers for a client or other third party.
